you cannot put a price tag on doing stuff for fun
Last year I launched mcpdirectory.io. Launched this just for my own needs. Now I am receiving 3-4 submission requests a week.
And the truth is I vibe coded the submission form and logic with basic verification, pending status, confirmation emails, etc. in one evening. And that PR was never merged :)
It's very good that it wasn't merged because MCP directory now works as a networking tool for me.
To submit a tool to the MCP directory, creators have to write an email to me. And most of the times I am just forwarding this email to my agent and agent is verifying data, preparing submission notes, and updating DB. I still manually approve, do a sanity check, and reply to the email.
If I find the project interesting, then... I reply with a few questions. But only If I'm genuinely interested. I connect with the creator on LinkedIn. And thanks to that mechanism, I connect people I wouldn't otherwise meet.
It's tempting to try and monetize the site with e.x "add premium/instant listing for €99 a month".
And it's very hard to put a price tag on such networking. A subscription has a clear number attached to it. A relationship, introduction or future collaboration doesn’t.
